With a simple and straightforward listing service you can add yourself within minutes and start searching for local members. SportsMate is completely FREE, all you have to do is register your profile, choose your sport, and rate your ability.
Email addresses are kept strictly confidential. We forward emails to your existing email account, with a link to the profile of the member who contacted you.

How much is SportsMate?

SportsMate is a completely FREE service. All you have to do is register to set up your profile and you can have unlimited access. There are no catches to this and you are provided with full SportsMate functions, all we ask is that you act responsibly on the site and treat other members with respect.

Why is it FREE to use SportsMate?

SportsBase wants to provide the most value for its customers who view the site. By making the service completely FREE, SportsBase hopes to create an unrivalled sports community, and increase participation in sports. This is to help SportsBase realise its goal of being the complete sports provider for all your sporting needs.

How do I register for SportsMate?

Registration can be found by clicking on the ‘register’ link on the Homepage or alternatively you will be prompted to register if you wish to access some parts of the site such as SportsMate profiles, or adding a club.

Once I have signed up how do I create a SportsMate profile?

Registration takes only a few minutes and provides you with full access for FREE to SportsMate.

All you need to do is enter a few personal details such as your name and email address, choose which sports you play and how often you play them. Your email address will be kept confidential and used as a forwarding address by SportsMate.

Once your profile has been submitted you will be sent an email asking you to validate your account. Simply click on the link in the email and your profile will go live on the site.

How do I search for someone on SportsMate?

Only users who are registered and logged in will be able to view results from the SportsMate search facility.

If a user tries to use the search facility and they have not logged on they will be asked to either login or register.

The categories for searching for profiles are: Sport, Age (above the age of 16), Sex, Ability, Name and Location.

A user only needs to choose sport, and one other category. (location will be taken from the users profile if not entered)

Results will include Name, Town, Age, Sex, Ability (Ability will only be shown if a specific sport was chosen).

Results will be ordered by distance using the users postcode from their profile details (if a location was not given).

How do I add to My Sports?

When a user clicks on ‘Add Sport’ on the profile homepage they will get taken to the original ‘My Sports’ page on sign up.

Simply select additional sports from the drop down menu, choose a skill level, and how often you play. Then click Save. An error message will show if the same sport has being chosen twice.

On the ‘My Sports’ main page there will be an ‘Add Where I play’ link by the side of each sport.

By clicking on ‘Add Where I play’ on in the ‘My Sports’ section a user can list where they play. For each sport that was ticked, you can choose where you play.
By clicking on the ‘Add Where I play’ link a user can search for their local sports venue or club. The venue or club name will then be listed under that particular sport.

If the club or venue is not listed you can go through the SportsBase Directory and add it yourself.

How do I send another user a message?

If you wish to send an email to a user, click the ‘Send Message’ link on the homepage.

You can then enter the title, and contact on the email. A side menu will show all friends with a tick box to send to multiple users or friend categories. The user can then click ‘Send’.

The message will then be displayed in that users ‘Inbox’ and an email will be sent to their actual email address with a link back to the site to view the message.

The message will also appear in your Sent Item box, and will reveal its status of unread, read, replied.

How do I view and see my Friends?

Friends are listed in the ‘Friends’ box on a users profile homepage. Only the top six friends are shown. To view all friends simply click on the ‘View all’ link or on the ‘Friends’ link on the side menu on ‘My Homepage’

To view a friend’s homepage simply click on their name.

How do I create categories for my Friends?

If you wish to create a new category for your friends simply click on the ‘Add Category’ link on the ‘My Friends’ page situated on the side menu of ‘My homepage’. You can then click on the categorize button for each friend to place them in that category.

Categories are a great way to quickly and easily send messages to a group of people in your friends list without having to select all members.

How do I invite a friend?

Users can invite friends by clicking on the add a friend link on the ‘My Friends’ page. Up to 10 friends can be invited at a time. SportsMate will then send an email to that user asking them to join

How do I create a Fixture?

To create a fixture go to your Fixtures page and click on ‘Post New Fixture’. You can then create and send a sports fixture to your friends by completing the form.

To complete the form simply choose the sport (from a drop down menu), enter a name to call the fixture, choose the date and time, and a type a short description about the fixture. You can then select the friends you wish to invite and choose the venue. Only friends can be invited to a fixture.

The fixture will then be sent to all friends selected and appear in the Fixtures list on their homepage along with an email notifying them of the fixture.

Each friend can then choose Yes/No as to whether they wish to take part. If the member has not chosen Yes or No then they will be placed as undecided.

Users can leave comments for all invited members to view.

Once the fixture date has passed it will be placed in the past Fixtures section on the ‘My fixtures’ page, where it can be viewed or deleted. The fixture will automatically be removed from the ‘My fixtures’ section on the homepage.
All users invited to a fixture will receive an email the day before so they do not forget they are committed to a fixture.

How do I send a Comment?

Comments can only be send to friends. To add a comment click on ‘Add Comment’ on a friends profile page. You will then be able to enter the content of the comment and click ‘Save’.

The comment will then with your name and photo on that friends homepage. A date will also be included of when the comment was posted.

How do I delete a comment on My Homepage?

Comments can be deleted by clicking on the comment page access from the side menu. An option to remove comments will then be available for each comment.

How do I create a Blog?

To post a blog click ‘Blog’ on the side menu and then click ‘Add New Blog Entry’. Previous entries can also be edited or deleted on this page.
